Dear Kaliji,

I am so glad that I stumbled on Triyoga - or perhaps it founded me?

I was in a teacher training class few weeks back with Beth (Brahmi). She is certainly one of your best, that I have worked with. Thanks to Beth for reigniting the spirit in me and for Laura who was the medium.

Kaliji … I’ve always had the most respect for generalists (as opposed to specialist) … a person who has knowledge, aptitudes and skills in a variety of fields. And you, Kaliji, are my generalist’s idol, i.e. a renaissance person … and, amazingly, you are also the expert in many of the expanding fields.

» Tannberg, Austria ~ August 26-30

Kaliji gave a 5-day retreat at Kulturwerkstatt, a retreat and conference center in Tannberg, Austria, from August 26-30. A wonderful group of 40 attended, including teachers and students.

The retreat center is in the beautiful Austrian countryside, surrounded by trees and fields.

During breaks in between sessions, they had the opportunity to see some of the nearby homes, such as this one, painted in a typical color for the area.

Each afternoon they went to the lake. There are several lakes near the retreat centre. Almost everyone went swimming!

The program sessions went from early in the morning into the evening, and included TY flows, Prana Vidya, chanting and yoga philosophy. Assistants for the program were Nandi (in background), Peter (foreground),

and Tanja.

Peter and Tanja are opening a TriYoga Center in Vienna, which will open on 09/09/09.

Mercury Max was also there to support the chanting sessions.

» Salzburg, Austria ~ August 25

Prior to beginning a retreat in Austria, Kaliji and group had a day to visit the town of Salzburg.

Kaliji, Mercury and Nandi were brought on the sightseeing tour by Erika and Reiner (shown here). Erika is the chair of Yoga Austria ~ the Austrian Yoga Association. Reiner is professor at the Universitat Mozarteum, university of music, theater and visual arts in Salzburg.

Salzburg is the 4th largest city in Austria, and is known for its Alpine location. It is the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The name Salzburg literally means “Salt Castle”, and derives its name from the barges carrying salt on the Salzach river.

Salzburg is on the banks of the Salzach river, at the northern boundary of the Alps. Human settlements are known to have been in the area for more than 2000 years.

Views of the Salzach River

The closest Alpine peak ~ the 1972 meter Untersberg ~ is only a few kilometers from the city center. Untersberg can be seen in the distance in this photo.

They also visited the Abbey Church of St. Peter in Salzburg. St. Rupert originally founded St. Peter’s Abbey in 696 AD. The present building was constructed in the Romanesque period, then completely renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries in the Baroque style.

The church features Baroque architecture.

St. Peter’s Cemetery, is the oldest graveyard in Salzburg, dating back to the 8th century. The graves are lovingly tended by Salzburg families, decorated with candles, fir branches, and flowers. Pansies are the most popular flower, because their name means “thoughts.”

St. Sebastian’s Cemetery contains the gravestone of Leopold Mozart, father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, also a noted composer and musician and one of the most famous violin teachers in the world.

These carvings in St. Sebastian’s Cemetery date from the 17th century, and remind us that death of the body is inevitable.

An emaciated death figure holding an hourglass evokes the sense of Memento Mori ~ Remember that you too will die.

This famous statue of Mozart by Ludwig Schwanthaler has stood in Mozartplatz since 1842.

» Europe Tour ~ August/September 2009

Read updates from Kaliji’s Europe tour here.

» England ~ August 17-20

Kaliji’s 5-country Europe tour started with a visit to the crop circles in the English county of Wiltshire. Kaliji and the TY group stayed in an old small market town and civil parish called Devizes. The Castle Devizes (where they stayed) was built in 1080 by Osmund, Bishop of Salisbury and the town started to develop around the castle.

Wiltshire is also well-known (together with Oxfordshire and Hampshire) as a place where crop circles regularly appear. Crop circles are geometric patterns which are mysteriously formed in the crop fields. The first appearance of the crop circles in the south of England was in 1971.

Visit to the first crop circle in Wiltshire, a very peaceful area. Some time after the circle arrived, the formation received new elements around the circle in the shape of wings, similar to a famous Egyptian ornamental pattern - wings around the sun.

Kaliji meditates at sunset in a crop circle named Hummingbird. This formation appeared in July. Hummingbird’s wings are making a figure-8 curve (representing infinity).

Kaliji and Michael Glickman, top researcher of the crop circle phenomena, and an architect by training. Michael shared his experience on the subject and his latest research results. For more information and to read Michael’s blog “Wheat from the Chaff”, please visit the Temporary Temples website. Also see Michael’s new book here.

While there, Kaliji also met with friend Gary King, another top researcher of crop circles. Gary witnessed the creation of a crop circle on 7/7/07, and has made a DVD of the event. See video here: East Field 07/07/07 part 1.

Gary and John ~ John is from Texas and also very knowledgeable about the crop circles. He is a professor of world history at St Philips University in San Antonio. He met Kaliji and group at Michael’s house and joined their tour of the circles.

Kaliji at 5000 year old stone circle in Avebury. Avebury is the site of a large henge and several stone circles surrounding the village of Avebury in Wiltshire. It is one of the finest and largest Neolithic monuments in Europe, about 5,000 years old. Although older than the megalithic stages of Stonehenge (32 kilometres (20 mi) to the south), the two monuments are broadly contemporary overall.

It was a wonderful experience meeting Brahmi. She is an excellent teacher, kind and has a lot of patience. I am very grateful to Lalita for inviting her. I was trying to go to Boston for training for over a year now. With Brahmi coming to NO it worked out perfectly.
