Mercury Max (a nada yogi blessed with incredible musical talent) began playing music at a very early age. He started playing soprano saxophone and eventually mastered clarinet, alto saxophone and tenor saxophone. Max’s father, a great alto saxophone player who played with the Bob Chester Orchestra during the “Big Band” era, was his music guru.
Mercury Max played music throughout his school years and began playing professionally at the age of 14. Along the way, Mercury learned to play piano, percussion instruments, electric bass guitar, flute and became an excellent vocalist. He became proficient enough to play professionally on these instruments and record music. Mercury’s current musical recordings feature him playing all the musical parts as well as arranging, composing and engineering the music.
Mercury accompanied a number of celebrated performers as an arranger and a musician. He worked with Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, the Shirelles, Chubby Checker, and others. He was in the backup band for Richard Nader’s Rock and Roll Revival in the early 1970s. Around the same time, he recorded music with John Belushi and Chevy Chase.
In 1974, Mercury Max migrated from New York City to Los Angeles, “City of Angels”, to meet his destiny. After a long period arranging music for academy award winning actor Jack Albertson, comedian David Brenner and others, as well as working with Sonny and Cher; acting in a movie (American Hotwax) as a featured performer; involvement in musical theater workshops as a composer and a two-year stint as house piano player at the original Comedy Store on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, Mercury found himself at Sunset Boulevard at a place of worship. He went up to the altar and said to God “please send me an angel”. Two weeks later Mercury met his “angel”. Now he is in the service of his angel as a composer, videographer, editor and business advisor (he did earn a college degree in business before venturing out into the “Big Time”). Mercury composes and records the music and does the video production for the world renowned TriYoga, created and developed by his “angel”, Kaliji. His life is good…..he continues to remain progressive in his music. There are songs to think about. . .
In 1990, Mercury met his spiritual master, the renowned composer and singer, H. H. Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji of Mysore, India. In addition to Mercury’s original compositions, he performs with Chant Club®, a musical group that he and yogini Kaliji cofounded, devoted to the music of Sri Swamiji.
Mercury’s music can be found in the TriYoga.com online store and on mercurymax.com (click “Songs”).
